Carlos Marcello, Not the World's only criminal!
Carlos Marcello, the long dead Mafia Boss from New Orleans, is similar to infamous Boston Mob Boss Whitey Bulger in that he gets accused of almost every major crime in history based on hearsay and gossip that becomes legend. One of our podcast listeners recently asked a question on Marcello that can be heard on our most recent episode. Now, I am not sticking up for Marcello or putting him up for Sainthood. Marcello was a bad man and a powerful southern Cosa Nostra Mob Boss. However, people accuse him of so many crimes with zero evidence.
The one accusation that absolutely drives me up a wall is that Marcello masterminded the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The day JFK was assassinated, Marcello was in a courtroom fighting deportation. He had no time leading up to the 22nd of November to plan anything except a defense with his attorneys in order to stay in the country, much less plan an assassination of our 35th president.
American Cosa Nostra is made up of 26 families nationwide. The 5 families in New York make up the commission and control everything east of the Mississippi river, and the Chicago Outfit controls everything west of the Mississippi River. So, Marcello would not be allowed under the rules of Cosa Nostra to plan something as big as an assassination of a president. The American Cosa Nostra is very different from the crime families in Italy and Sicily in that they do not target civilians, law enforcement officials, judges, or politicians.
All the so-called evidence against Marcello is from easily discredited liars. Also, none of these "jackals" are "made men" in the mafia. Having studied Organized Crime since I was in college, I can say for certain that these mob Bosses do NOT, under any circumstances, talk to outsiders about their business. Marcello would never volunteer anything, much less his involvement in the crime of the century.
As a serious researcher of everything JFK and of organized crime, I can say with certainty that Marcello did NOT mastermind the JFK assassination and probably had zero involvement in it at all, since there is no evidence that he had a relationship with the CIA like other mob bosses such as Santos Trafficante had. Writers and researchers need to learn that one can't just accuse a criminal of crimes just to make their story better.
